Because of the recent Taal Volcano eruption and ashfall as well as the Covid-19 pandemic, the code N95 used to classify facemasks became very popular. So popular that people even hoarded and bought up everything leading to a shortage.
Just what does the N95 rating stand for? In simple terms, the “N95” rating stands for the standard set by the U.S. National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health that mean that it can filter 95% of airborne particles measuring 0.3 microns or higher.
These N95 filters are made from advanced manufacturing techniques that uses an extremely fine mesh of synthetic electrostatic polymer fibers, also known as nonwoven polypropylene fabric, through a process called melt-blowing. Melt-blowing forms the inner filtration layer that filters out hazardous particles including bacteria and viruses.
As the metro begins to prepare itself to ease up the ECQ (enhanced community quarantine) and move to a more relaxed GCQ (generatl community quarantine) protocols, traffic will eventually be back and motorists will have to spend several hours a day on the road again.
Chery Philippines recently announced that its Tiggo SUV models has made N95 the standard cabin air filter, the highest available air filtration as standard equipment for all its Chery Tiggo 5X, Tiggo 7 and Tiggo 8 models using an ultra-efficient long-life N95 AC cabin air filter and backed up by a powerful air-conditioning system.
The cabin filters work in three phases, with three layers of filtration. The first phase is a percolator filter that blocks the larger particles like dust and outdoor pollution, like soot that comes from black diesel exhaust smoke that is airborne in heavy road traffic. Once the air enters into the second phase, the electrostatic fine fiber mesh filters out particles as small as 0.3 microns with 95% efficiency. The last and 3rd phase is an activated charcoal layer filters out harmful gases (i.e. toluene, N-butane, SO2) and this feature also deodorizes unpleasant smells inside the cabin. Because of the high efficiency of the Chery N95 AC filter, it also helps dehydrate the cabin air and remove the moisture which effectively reduces the lifespan of most germs.
Prior to the Covid-19 pandemic Chery has already been using this type of third-generation AC cabin filter technology. The first generation system started back in the 1990s air-condition systems only had a rudimentary cabin filter. Most of the cars in the market still use the 2nd generation PM2.5 standard (PM stands for particulate matter).
