The world’s bestselling plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) is now available in the Philippines. Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corp. officially launched yesterday the Outlander PHEV and will initially be available at Mitsubishi Manila Bay of Peak Motors Philippines Inc. (PMPI).

Now offered in more than 50 countries, the Outlander PHEV sold over 260,000 units globally since its introduction in Japan in 2013.

“MMPC is very excited to launch the Outlander PHEV in the Philippine market as the car best represents Mitsubishi’s expertise in automotive engineering and its ever evolving technology. The Philippines is one of the strongest markets of the brand and we are honored to be given the opportunity to make the Outlander PHEV available here in the country,” said Mutsuhiro Oshikiri, MMPC president and CEO.

The Outlander PHEV is priced at P2.998 million.

Oshikiri informed that aside from selling the Outlander PHEV, Mitsubishi Manila Bay will be ready to offer its buyers the unique system—the V2H or vehicle to home—that will allow a homeowner to capture energy from the sun and then share it as needed between their house and the battery of the Outlander PHEV—and back again. “With its all-electric operation for everyday use and mainly motor-powered hybrid operation for longer journeys, the Outlander PHEV aims to promote greener energy alternatives and self-sustainability for better care of our environment. It’s a concept that may seem very futuristic but there is opportunity in integrating home and vehicle energy needs to not only use the same source of power, but also share that power according to day-to-day needs.”

Its 126-horsepower (199Nm of torque), 2.4-liter MIVEC gasoline engine works with a 60kW motor in front and a 70kW motor at the rear to generate a maximum output of 236 hp and 300 Nm of torque. Matched with a Super All Wheel Control (S-AWC) integrated vehicle dynamics control system, Active Yaw Control (AYC), Active Stability Control (ASC) and Anti-lock Brake System (ABS), the driver can enjoy stable and responsive handling that is capable of adapting to various road conditions.

Safety features

The Outlander PHEV was awarded by New Car Assessment Programme (NCAP) with the maximum 5-star rating, thanks to its several safety features:

 • Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) system: Employs radar technology to judge distance from the vehicle ahead and accelerate, slow down or stop to maintain a safe driving distance

• Forward Collision Mitigation (FCM) system: A radar and camera based system that is designed to prevent collision or reduce collision damage by warning the driver and automatically applying brakes once it detects vehicles ahead or pedestrians to be in an unsafe distance.

• Blind Spot Warning (BSW) and Lane Change Assist (LCA): Alerts the driver when a vehicle is in or approaching its blind spot at the back side quarter

• Automatic High Beam (AHB): When the vehicle detects an incoming car, it automatically switches the headlamp to low beam and once the oncoming vehicle has passed, it reverts back to high beam.

• Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) system: Uses a radar sensor unit to warn the driver of vehicles approaching from either side while backing up

• Ultrasonic misacceleration Mitigation System (UMS): To help prevent collisions while parking, a buzzer sounds and a warning displays if the front or rear sensors detect a nearby obstacle. Acceleration is also controlled if the driver suddenly put their foot down by accident.

MMPC informed that by early next year, the Outlander PHEV will also be sold in other select dealerships in the provinces: Fast Autoworld Philippines Corp., SFM Sales Corp., Motor Plaza Incorporated, Mindanao Integrated Commercial Enterprises Inc.
