Antonio “Toti” Zara is poised to become the the president of AC Automotive, the country’s largest multi-brand dealership group run by Ayala.
According to multiple sources, the announcement of Zara’s appointment is expected anytime soon.
The 54-year-old Zara recently resigned from his post as general manager of GT Capital Auto Dealership Holdings supposedly to prepare for his new asssigment at AC Automotive, a subsidiary of AC Industrials which has Ayala Corp. as parent company.
The new position will put under Zara’s supervision all the brands currently being handled by AC Automotive: Kia now headed by Manny Aligada, Maxus and Volkswagen led by Felipe Estrella and KTM where Dino Santos is president and COO. AC Automotive also operates Honda and Isuzu dealerships.
Zara carries into AC Automotive his long years of experience in the production, sales and marketing and management of various brands.
He holds the distinction of being the first Filipino to be named president of a Japanese auto company twice, holding the position at Nissan Philippines’ from August 2014 to March 2016 and Nissan Indonesia for a year in 2016-17.
Previously, he had started his career in the production lines of Toyota Motor Philippines. General Motors Automobiles Philippines took him in as sales director in 1999 then sojourned abroad for the next 13 years in General Motors Indonesia in 2003 (sales, service and marketing director), General Motors Japan national sales company in 2006 (president), General Motors Southeast Asia in 2008 (sales, service and marketing vice president) and General Motors Korea in 2012 (international sales managing director).
