Deliveries of Porsche models in the US have increased in the third quarter of 2020 compared to the same period last year, indicating a recovery trend from coronavirus lockdowns in the first half of 2020. The rise in sales also follows Porsche’s top ranking in a J.D. Power study on customers’ experience with their new vehicles.
Porsche in the US sold 15,548 vehicles from July to September this year, representing a 5.0% increase over its 14,805 deliveries during the comparable period last year. Comprising the bulk of the brand’s tally are sales of SUVs, with the Macan accounting for 5,466 units and the Cayenne contributing 4,509 examples.
The all-electric Taycan garnered 1,858 customers during the same three-month stretch. Porsche also delivered 1,567 examples of the 911, 1,084 of the 718 models, and 1,064 of the Panamera.
Porsche’s recent upward trajectory in deliveries comes just as US customers rated Porsche highest among all brands in the J.D. Power 2020 Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) Study. It was the second year in a row that Porsche took the top position in the annual survey of customer experience with owning and driving a new vehicle.
The APEAL Study measures owners’ emotional attachment and level of excitement with their new vehicle across 37 attributes, ranging from their sense of comfort and luxury upon getting into the driver’s seat, to the “power” they feel when they step on the throttle. These attributes combine into an overall APEAL index score measured on a 1,000-point scale.
Porsche earned 881 points compared to the premium brand average of 861.
The APEAL Study, now in its 25th year, is based on responses gathered from February through May of this year from more than 87,000 buyers and lessees of new 2020 model-year vehicles. They were surveyed after 90 days of ownership.
While all models contributed to Porsche’s popularity as reflected in the sales charts and customer experience study, a key to the brand’s appeal is the undeniable desirability of the all-new 911 Turbo S—which is now available in the Philippines. Setting the benchmark among sports cars in power and performance, the model excellently communicates the Porsche brand values of innovation and tradition.
The all-new 911 Turbo S is powered by a six-cylinder, 3,745cc boxer engine producing 650ps and 800Nm of torque. It is paired to an eight-speed PDK transmission and an all-wheel drive system that features an enhanced Porsche Traction Management unit. The combination propels the car from a standstill to 100km/h in only 2.7 seconds, and on to a top speed of 330km/h.
Adding to the all-new 911 Turbo S’s performance are a sportier version of the standard Porsche Active Suspension Management chassis, a body that is now 45 millimeters wider in front and 20 millimeters at the rear, mixed-size 20-inch and 21-inch wheels, and adaptive aerodynamic features.
