After opening its seventh and eighth dealerships in the cities of General Santos and Cebu last January, which was then followed by one in Baliuag, Bulacan early this month, Sojitz G Auto Philippines (SGAP) announced the recent opening of both Geely Davao and Geely Makati last week.
The SGAP, the official distributor of the Geely brand in the country, said the 10th and 11th dealerships further improves the brand’s presence in the country with more coming in the next few weeks. Last March 6, SGAP together with its shareholder/dealer partner House of Investments of the Yuchengco Group, led the groundbreaking of Geely Manila, which is set to open in April.
“It’s a good sign for the business that we are able to open another dealership in Makati under SGAP, following the rise of Geely’s flagship dealership in North Edsa in 2019. This is a welcome development for the business. An indicator that during this time of global struggle, our brand is being well-received by people and that we still manage to survive and thrive,” said SGAP President and CEO Mikihisa Takayama.
The SGAP, with headquarters located at the corner of Edsa and Corregidor street, now manages both Geely North Edsa and Geely Makati, which is located at 2232 Don Chino Roces Avenue (formerly Pasong Tamo), Makati City.
Geely Davao, on the other hand, operates under SGAP’s partner dealer, Image G Motors Davao Inc. Led by its president, Walter Alvarez. “We are pleased to be part of Geely’s network expansion here in the King City of the South. With how Geely has been greatly performing in the market, I believe that the Davaoeños will be welcoming the brand even more after we have formally opened our doors to them,” he said.
“Running a business during this time poses a great challenge. But our collective efforts and the trust of our partners make difficulties easier to handle. I would like to thank Image G Motors Davao Inc. for bringing the Geely brand to the King City of the South,” added Takayama.
Geely Davao, located at Km 5 JP Laurel Avenue Bajada in Davao City, strengthens Geely’s presence in Mindanao, now that it has dealerships in Zamboanga, Cagayan de Oro, and General Santos.
SGAP, one of the 400 subsidiaries of Japan based Sojitz Corp., started operations in the Philippines in March 2019. In just a few months, Geely made its presence felt with the introduction of its first and only vehicle offering at the time, the Coolray sub-compact SUV. The Coolray became a hit in its segment, becoming a best-seller in 2020 and until February 2021. After the market success of the Coolray, SGAP launched the Azkarra compact SUV and the Okavango 7-seater mid-size crossover.
The excellent market performance enabled Geely to land 10th place in the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines and Association of Vehicle Importers and Distributors combined list of top-selling passenger vehicle brands. Last month, Geely improved its ranking as it climbed to 9th place.
