Welcome to Inquirer Mobility

In sports, one of the most exhilarating feelings for any athlete would be to rise from insurmountable odds and certain defeat, and ultimately emerge victorious. Indeed, even in the game of life, such come-from-behind wins count as among the most memorable.
In the ultra-competitive global automotive industry, one such China brand now savors such a feeling.
Nearly two decades ago, no one was taking a car brand that named itself after a fruit or blossom seriously. But its makers envisioned the Chery badge to be destined for greatness outside its motherland’s great wall. By 2007, the company became China’s leading independent carmaker, hitting a cumulative sales total of 1 million units. In 2009, it was able to expand its roster of vehicles with upgraded technologies, including several hybrid and electric vehicles.
Today, Chery is a serious contender in the global automotive market, across multiple vehicle categories.
It was also a rough start for Chery when it first entered the Philippine market in the early 2000s. But when Chery re-entered in 2019, this time under distributorship with United Asia Automotive Group Inc (UAAGI)—the same company that distributes and assembles Foton and made it a crisp household word—the brand has been on a winning streak, its local market confidence boosted.
The “star athlete” in Chery’s latest line of vehicles has been its crossover Chery Tiggo 7 Pro, which has been making the rounds lately among the country’s premier professional volleyball athletes, giving them the chance to test drive and experience this head-turning SUV.
Fresh from its successful launch in late January, and basking in its sold-out success in February, the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro sustains its momentum as new shipments have arrived.
Chery Auto Philippines president Rommel Sytin said: “We are happy to see such strong demand for the all-new Chery Tiggo 7 Pro. We had high expectations for this model with its upmarket good looks backed up by a generous set of luxury and safety features, and we were not disappointed by the consumer response.”
It would be extremely difficult to resist the charms of the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro, as it presents itself with its bold grille and upscale LED headlamps. The fog lamps and daytime running lights (DRLs) are all LED as well for state-of-the-art road illumination.
The all-new Tiggo 7 Pro is powered by a new-generation 1.5L turbocharged DOHC 16-valve Euro 5-compliant 4-cylinder engine coupled with an all-new continuously variable transmission (CVT).
Complementing its looks and performance is Chery’s one-of-a-kind industry-leading 10-year/1 million-km engine warranty, 5-year/150,000-km general vehicle warranty, free 3-year preventive maintenance service (PMS), and free 3-year roadside assistance.
It’s the kind of offer any motorist would want to “dive and dig” for.
Athletes’ take
Professional volleyball athletes, members of the Chery Tiggo Crossover Volleyball Team, recently took the Tiggo 7 Pro on a test run. This sortie with a crossover proved to be symbolic as well, since the team just announced that they were crossing over from the Philippine SuperLiga (PSL)—where they’ve enjoyed enormous success for over seven years—into the professional Premier Volleyball League (PVL), where they look forward to achieving even greater heights.
Here are their 10 impressions of the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro:

1) Glossy finish, sporty look
Rachel Austero raved, “I just love the overall look! From the color and glossy finish to the details, to the alloy wheels and headlights that make it look more luxurious! The grille and styling? Super sporty!”

2) Perfect protective bubble
EJ Laure was also astonished by the family-friendly features of the crossover. “I prioritize comfort and space in a car, especially as I have a baby, so when we rode the Tiggo 7 Pro and felt its smooth ride, quiet and spacious cabin, plus the cool air conditioning, we were so happy!”

3) Biggest infotainment system
The athletes also remarked on how the Tiggo 7 Pro has the biggest-in-class 10.25-inch touchscreen 6-speaker infotainment system that boasts Bluetooth, Mirror Link, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and USB connectivity. A touch panel also controls the A/C system.

4) Smart key, wireless smartphone charger
“What excites me the most is the Tiggo 7 Pro Smart Key. It allows you to start the car’s engine remotely, controls the A/C, windows, and even doors. I think it’s made for lazy people like me,” Austero said. “It also has a built-in wireless smartphone charger. You don’t have to untangle your cords anymore. Just place it there while checking directions via Waze,” she added.
5) Expansive sunroof
As these pro athletes can jump so high for that ball, the Tiggo Pro 7 can also open up its 1.1-square meter panoramic sunroof to reveal much more of the sky. This crossover also features a multi-color ambient cabin lighting, a push-button electronic parking brake, a tire pressure monitoring system, a rear camera with front and rear proximity sensors, and a fully digital instrument cluster.
“What I love most is the sunroof, which allows you to feel and appreciate the wind and the beauty of nature. It provides that fairytale movie-like experience,” said Eya Laure.

6) Automatic power tailgate
“I’m excited about the automatic power tailgate, wireless mobile charging, and the huge panoramic sunroof!” said Eya.

7) Legroom for tall players
“The comfy leather seats have a premium vibe which creates a very nice ambiance—soothing and relaxing—perfect for athletes who want to rest after a long, tiring training or workout session with their teams. Plus, it’s got great legroom—perfect for us tall players,” Austero observed.

8) 360-degree HD camera
“The steering is light, it’s very comfortable yet sporty to drive. The interior is very spacious and quiet and has advanced features. I’m amazed by the 360-degree camera, front and rear parking sensors, and power tailgate, which makes parking and loading cargo very easy,” Dindin Santiago-Manabat said.

9) Performance and drive
“The Tiggo 7 Pro is smooth to drive and can run with bigger, more powerful cars. Gear shifts are very smooth and the engine is so silent. It’s one of the best-performing cars that I’ve ever driven—really solid!” Maika Ortiz said.

10) State-of-the-art safety
The athletes also appreciated that the Tiggo 7 Pro included safety features such as Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Electronic Brake Assist (EBA), Traction Control System (TCS), Hill Assist Control (HDC), Hill Descent Control (HDC), and ISOFIX child-seat anchors, ideal for them and their precious companions in the car.
What makes the Chery Tiggo Crossover players that more excited, aside from their big leap to the pro league, is that many Filipino motorists can now also make that big jump into owning a world-class crossover, what with the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro’s starting price of just P1.198 million.
Now that’s an ace of a serve from Chery Philippines, one that many Pinoy motorists need not dig too deep into their pockets in order to score.
