The 19th staging of the Auto Shanghai, otherwise known as the Shanghai Motor Show, recently highlighted one of the fast-rising auto brands in the world. MG’s booth, with the theme “Exhibition Technological and Trendy” hints at MG’s effort to highlight its move towards electrification.
Some of the brand’s latest electric vehicles (EVs) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEVs) offerings were put on display including the popular MG Cyberster EV concept, which resembles a futuristic MGB roadster and boasts of an 800km range, and acceleration from zero-100kph in less than 3 seconds; the MG Linghang PHEV SUV, which is a follow up to the recently launched gasoline variant; and the sporty, new MG 6 PHEV which continues the model line-up’s racing-inspired driving dynamics with an updated powertrain.
Carrying on MG’s racing heritage
The MG brand is steeped in motorsport history—from breaking land speed records, winning the brutal Isle of Man Tourer’s Trophy, and in more recent history gaining triumph at the British Touring Car Championship. Even locally, the MG 5 came out on top of its class at the most recent Bonifacio 8-Hour Endurance Challenge held at the Clark International Speedway.
In 2020 the XPOWER-tuned MG 6, which is currently on display at the 2021 Shanghai Motor Show, bagged a double crown for team and model championships at the China Touring Car Championship. Fans at the show can also do their own customization of the XPOWER MG 6 at the MG XPOWER online store in order to see how their design fares on a virtual race track.
MG: Always Young
While MG has existed for almost a century, MG isn’t an old, dusty brand that’s out of touch with the modern times. At the MG booth, the brand presented youthful graffiti-like displays, vibrant colors, and a vehicle lineup that’s made for tomorrow’s generation of consumers.
The MG 5 display, for example, is set up in what is dubbed a “selfie space” that’s post worthy for visitors and guests. To complete the brand journey, the display also features “time glasses” where one could witness the MG story from past to present.
MG is primed to focus on three major brand pillars: globalization, digitalization, and rejuvenation. All of these work harmoniously to produce cutting edge products and services that will be enjoyed for future generations, the company explained. Being a fashionable and trendy brand, and producing intelligent vehicle technologies, MG said it will not compromise on being inclusive to younger audiences as it is offers customized sports tuning.
