Drivers of the Obengers Racing Team got off to a solid start in the hotly-contested super sporting and sporting classes as the Toyota Gazoo Racing Vios Cup 2021 season fired off at Clark International Speedway in Pampanga over the weekend.
The Obengers overwhelmed the field in the sporting class by completing a near-sweep of podium finishes and also chalked up one victory, a runner-up finish and a third place showing in the super sporting class.
“We are so happy and excited to be back in racing and on the podium! We will be better in the next leg for sure,” said an excited Don Juan Miguel “Cosco” Oben, the team’s principal.
Oben was very impressed with the showing of his eight drivers despite some challenges and few mishaps. He also credited the efforts of coach Roland Hermoso and manager Pao Agregado for all the wins the team got.
“Special mention to our sporting class driver Inigo Anton for having such a phenomenal weekend on his first ever stint in the Vios Cup. I’m so proud of him not only because of his great racing talent but for being such a fine young boy with good moral values. He is a perfect fit to the kind of culture we are trying to promote in our team and in our group of dealerships. I see our eight core values fully embodied by this boy and that honestly makes me very happy and proud that he is a part of Obengers.”
Pulling a surprise was Toyota PH president Atsuhiro Okamoto who drove around the track with a soon-to-be-released GR Yaris before the races.
‘We are back’
“Toyota Gazoo Racing is all about pushing the limits for the better. We had to hit the brakes due to the pandemic last year, but now we are back with an even more exciting race!” Okamoto remarked during the opening ceremonies “So here we are today at the Clark International Speedway, returning with the ever-reliable Vios. This Filipino-made car is really fun to drive on the daily and at the tracks. With hope for better days ahead and maximum safety protocols, we move forward and race on!”
The next legs of the race will happen on Sept. 11 and Nov. 6. Stay tuned on the latest updates and follow Toyota Motor Philippines and Toyota Gazoo Racing PH on Facebook and Instagram, check out the official website at toyota.com.ph, and join us on Twitter (ToyotaMotorPH) and Viber (Toyota PH).
