Three of the four Pinoy medalists at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics need not worry about the mobility of their families from now on. And they can even look forward to starting a business with the special gifts they received from Foton and Chery.
Gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz got herself a brand-new 13-seater Foton Transvan, silver medalist Nesthy Petecio drove home a Chery Tiggo 2 Crossover SUV while the other silver medalist Carlo Paalam opted for the 13-seater Foton Gratour M/T MPV.
The three were handed the keys to their vehicles by United Asia Automotive Group Inc. (UAAGI) president Rommel Sytin in a formal turnover ceremony at the Windy Ridge Hotel in Tagaytay City also graced by Senator Francis Tolentino and Tagaytay Congressman Cong. Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino, who as president of the Philippine Olympic Committee led the country to its most successful campaign at the Olympics in 97 years.
“We are all very proud of what our hard-working athletes have achieved on the global stage. They have brought so much pride and inspiration to their fellow Filipinos, which are much needed in these difficult times,” said Sytin. “It is our privilege to be able to reward these sporting heroes in our humble way.”
Diaz clinched the gold medal in women’s weightlifting 55 kg category, Petecio, won the silver in the women’s featherweight boxing categor, and Paalam, who took the silver in the men’s flyweight boxing category.
Middleweight boxer Eumir Marcial, who also delivered a bronze medal in Tokyo, was also rewarded by Sytin with P300,000 cash bonus.
The Foton Transvan 13-seater model that Diaz got, is one of the most popular models from the brand while the Tiggo 2—in the newly introduced gray color—of Petecio, is a fun-to-drive yet functional compact SUV from Chery. The Foton Gratour M/T Paalam got is a versatile MPV that can be for family or business use.
Sytin, through UAAGI, has always been an advocate of Philippine sports, especially in the fields of volleyball and basketball. UAAGI has been fielding highly competitive teams in women’s volleyball, first as the Foton Tornadoes and recently under the Chery Tiggo Crossovers banner. Just last week, the Chery Tiggo Crossovers clinched the first-ever professional volleyball championship under the inaugural Premier Volleyball League (PVL).
