What makes an ideal car for moms? It’s the one that gives me peace.
Perhaps because women have so many things in their mind. Like what the husband would want for dinner; what the kids need for school, the kitchen drawers that need to be fixed, how to make sure no one gets COVID-19 and so many other things to worry about. So when we are driving, what we want to achieve is peace. Our frequent road trips out of the city and abroad gave us the realizations on what a family of seven needs in a car to have peace.
So when Subaru sent me one of their newest models to test drive, it opened my mind even more on the parameters that I need to set to achieve the kind of peace I want. Since the Evoltis’ positioning is a family car or something “mom-approved,” it has to make life easier. It should also make the passengers as comfortable as possible.
Cabin harmony
The biggest come-on of the Evoltis is its cabin. It’s very well detailed and well thought of with all passengers in mind. Each seat has its separate aircon vent and control, USB ports, tons of cup holders. So if you have kids, there will be no more fights on who gets to charge his or her device, no one will turn into a popsicle while the other one is getting a bout with hot flashes. The most in class, 19 cup holders will come in handy to keep things organized not just for drinks but for alcohol sprays and other knickknacks your kids will reach for during the drive.
The legroom is another plus. Usually, when the second-row seats are captain chairs, the legroom of the third row is sacrificed. But there’s enough space for little kids to walk around and even put bags on their feet. The boot also has enough room, not generally seen with other seven-seaters crossovers.
I also liked the big sunroof, which I realized is now a must-have for any car I’m going to own. It lessens the feeling of being caged, especially during long drives. It also provides entertainment for the kids, so less yelling of “are we there yet?”.
Another plus is the automatic windshield wiper. I love this feature because it’s one less thing to think about. Also, another fave is the built-in window shade—simple things that make life easier.
Goodies under the hood
I was surprised by the performance of this car. People might think that the Evoltis will not pack any goodies in engine performance since it’s a family car. But this one has a punch: powered by the new FA24, 2.4-liter turbocharged boxer engine, which generates 260 horsepower and 375Nm of torque. It’s fast, smooth, and very responsive. Dads with an inclination for speed will not get bored driving this one.
And another plus for the boys is the towing capacity of the Evoltis. With its 5,000-pound capability, towing your jet skis or motorbikes is a possibility.
Safety features that would keep your mind at ease are the 220mm of ground clearance, so no problems with floods (not Noah’s ark type). Standard Subaru Eyesight comes with all sorts of Driver Assist Technologies such as stay in lane warning, pre-collision braking, and many more. More goodies to make driving less taxing.
Overall, if you are looking for a car with well-thought details, this is a contender. Although it’s priced higher than the most in its segment, the inside features of this car give a good value for money, especially if you are the type who prioritizes comfort (that’s me) when traveling. As I would say, what is money if you are not going to spend it.
The Evoltis 2.4 Touring EyeSight retails for P3,480,000 and available in five colors: Crystal White Pearl, Ice Silver Metallic, Crystal Black Silica, Crimson Red Pearl, and a brand-new color – Abyss Blue Pearl.
