MG Philippines is all about bringing customers modern, stylish, British heritage rides at attainable prices. But the affinity towards MG can also be attributed to the brand’s numerous efforts to connect with its target market—and one of these ways is through music.
Music is an inherent piece of the MG culture, and it has always been intertwined with the brand’s promotions and campaigns. In fact, numerous MG Philippines events, pre-pandemic, featured classic MG cars and engaging music to the delight of the crowd. MG Philippines’ highly-successful MG Live! free concert series, featuring big-name OPM bands, attracted throngs of people in MG Philippines mall roadshow display events and even during major cars shows.
Before the pandemic, MG Philippines’ event calendar was peppered with MG Live! music shows throughout the year in key cities of the country. Now that health and safety protocols have limited MG Philippines’ ability to mount concerts like these, the brand has gotten more creative in trying to remind everyone that MG and music go hand in hand. It didn’t come as a surprise when music and a lot of singing was involved during the launch of the new, turbocharged, ZST Crossover SUV—MG Philippines’ latest model which is the newest variant of the ever-popular ZS.

The media launch was done virtually, featuring MG Philippine’s President and CEO Atty. Alberto B. Arcilla and his lean but mean creative team who made sure the event radiated the same vibe and character befitting the youthful exuberance of the high-performance, turbocharged ZST. Atty. Arcilla’s very hip get up and cool MG liveried jacket added much to what the brand wished to convey. “When we launched the MG brand in 2018, our goal was clear: to be part of the exciting and growing Philippine automotive market, and to provide Filipinos with stylish, modern, and safe vehicles—but at very attainable price points,” says Arcilla.
“The local market’s reception has been very encouraging indeed. In just three years, more Filipinos have chosen MG, and there are now over ten thousand MG’s on our roads, with several of those being the ever-popular ZS Crossover SUV.”

What was also unique about the online event was the overall presentation and execution of the event. Not your ordinary online launch, the audience was spared from the usual boring technical highlights and visuals. Instead, MG Philippines invited some musically talented individuals including Meds Marfil, lead vocalist of the band True Faith; and Inquirer Mobility’s very own Ardie Lopez for a quick Carpool Karaoke session inside the MG ZST. Along with MG Philippines executives Scott San Agustin at the wheel of the MG ZST and Chino Subido setting the tone from the front passenger seat, Marfil was shown singing his monster hit “Perfect” while Lopez belted out lyrics from British Invasion new wave tunes coming from the car’s powerful and balanced 6-speaker audio system.
Suffice to say that the joyful energy from the Carpool Karaoke session was infectious, and it moved from the virtual space into the real world, with members of the motoring media singing along to these popular and fun tunes. It was a lively event that broke the norm of online car launches and, for what it is worth, another engaging Carpool Karaoke episode inside the turbocharged ZST looks inevitable.
