MG Philippines ended the third quarter selling 4,258 units—a 49 percent increase against the same period in 2020. This also marks the brand’s most robust year-on-year growth. MG Philippines also ended Q3 2021 on a high note recording 725 unit sales in September 2021 alone, which is the highest month of sales so far for the brand this year.

Driving the sales are two of MG’s bestselling models: the MG 5 Sedan which is highly regarded in the local subcompact sedan category for its best-in-class features, exterior size, cabin and luggage space, and driving dynamics; and the highly popular, value-laden ZS Crossover SUV.

“We are happy that MG Philippines successfully weathered the challenges brought about by the global pandemic, and achieved accelerated growth in sales performance over the past two years. This is a testament to the collective efforts and support of our principals at SMIL, the trust and commitment of our dealer partners, and the grit and experience of the TCCCI stewards. With these, MG Philippines was able to effectively adopt new and more efficient sales processes, implement exciting product offers, and execute marketing strategies that resulted in the brand’s continued growth and exceptional sales performance thus far in 2021,”

Atty. Alberto B. Arcilla, President and CEO of MG Philippines

Quickly pivot

He adds, “The wisdom and experience of the TCCCI board and management allowed MG Philippines to quickly pivot to the unique situation brought about by the pandemic. TCCCI acknowledges that the market’s appreciation is heightened by the inherent strengths of a heritage car brand like MG. With our exciting product offers, value-added aftermarket services, a growing nationwide dealership network, and the support from all our valued MG stakeholders—our clients, dealers, bank, and media colleagues—MG Philippines is able to achieve and sustain its sales projections and overall upward trajectory.”

From January to September 2021, the MG 5 sedan recorded sales of 1,159 units, while the ZS Crossover SUV reported 2,979 unit sales over the same period last year. Compared to their YTD sales figures in 2020, both reflect marked increases at 51 percent and 67 percent for the MG 5 and ZS, respectively.

MG Philippines is primed to end 2021 strong, starting Q4 2021 with the introduction of the new ZST Crossover SUV: a fresh take on a crowd favorite, it is the first MG to enter the Philippines sporting MG’s updated global design language. The MG ZST is equipped with a new, turbocharged 1.3-liter engine that produces 160hp and 230Nm of torque.
