After a month-long delay due to health-related restrictions, Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) finally brought the thrill back at Clark International Speedway in Pampanga with the successful run of the second leg of the Toyota Gazoo Racing Vios Cup 2021 last weekend.
Out of the 49 racers who competed in the race—25 and 24 in the Circuit Championship and Autocross Challenge, respectively— drivers from the Obengers Racing Team dominated the podium awards.
Toyota North EDSA-Obengers Racing Team drivers Inigo Anton and Julian Tang, dominated the Sporting Class as consistent Top 3 contenders while Toyota Otis-Obengers Racing Team driver Joaquin Garrido claimed Race 6 of the same class.
TSJ-Obengers Racing Team driver Julia Delos Angeles took home two out of three first-place awards in Promotional Class, while Royce Sarmiento of RMS Cars Racing Team, took the top spot for the last race.
Vios Cup veterans Estefano Rivera (Toyota Balintawak-Obengers Racing Team), Bryan Co and Gerard Loy (both R Racing/Toyota Dagupan), Red Diwa (JBT Racing/Toyota Isabela), and Pauland Dumlao (JBT Racing/Toyota San Fernando) kept the circuit championship race in the Super Sporting Class tight as they took turns at the Top 3, with Rivera as a consistent podium placer.

For the Autocross Challenge, social media influencer Jules Aquino was hailed the champion in the Celebrities and Influencers class, with newcomer Enzo Pineda coming in 2nd and radio personality Gino Quillamor taking the 3rd place. Autoindustriya.com’s Jose Altoveros won the trophy in the Media class followed by Brian Dacanay (Tier 1) and Paolo De Borja (C! Magazine).
“Thousands of motorsports fans like you joined us online last July, making the return of the Vios Cup a safe and successful one. With more than 48 racers, we challenged the roadblocks of this pandemic. And now we are back, ready for more thrilling track action. We are so glad to race again at the Clark International Speedway with the reliable Filipino-made Vios,” said TMP President Atsuhiro Okamoto during the opening ceremonies that also saw the surprise appearance of the new Toyota Gazoo Racing models, the Hilux GR-S and the Fortuner GR-S that were launched last Oct. 23.
