CAMPI electric vehicle technologies on display at LTO Motor Show

The Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc. (CAMPI) will be showcasing a whole range of OEM electric vehicle (EV) technologies at the Land Transportation Office (LTO) Motor Show from today until Friday, May 24 to 27, 2022.

The motor show returns after two years since the pandemic hit the country with the theme “We Drive Your Future”.

Initiated in 2018, the motor show brings together industry partners and other LTO stakeholders to
promote emission compliance, vehicle safety and roadworthiness, among others. This year’s
theme also aims to promote low carbon mobility through EV adoption. The LTO motor show will
be a convergence of OEM EV technologies that include hybrid electric vehicles (HEV), plug-in
hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) and battery electric vehicles (BEV) as well as internal combustion
engine (ICE) vehicles through its industry partners like CAMPI.

‘’We have been advocating together with LTO on vehicle safety and environmental performance
for a long time. We will now intensify our advocacy and information campaign on EVs considering
the effectivity of Republic Act No. 11697 or the Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act (EVIDA)
last May 15, 2022. The LTO motor show provides a good platform for this.” stated CAMPI
president, Rommel Gutierrez. CAMPI’s model line-up includes five (5) EV models and 5 ICE
models.

CAMPI will also conduct information campaign on OEM EV technologies during the motor show.
“We’d like to put objective information out there that are truly helpful to customers. Those that can
enhance the understanding of EV technologies and increase the preference for EVs,” Gutierrez
said. The penetration rate of EVs remain low. LTO data show that only 1,020 units of 4-wheel
EVs were registered in 2010 – 2020. CAMPI says there is much to be done to improve the uptake
of EV and information campaign is among the group’s priorities.

Earlier this week, the group expressed its support to the Department of Trade & Industry’s
proposal of 0% MFN tariff on EVs saying the DTI initiative is complementary to EVIDA.
CAMPI member companies that will participate in the motor show include Foton Motor Philippines,
Inc., Isuzu Philippines Corp., Bermaz Auto Philippines, Inc. (Mazda), Mitsubishi Motors
Philippines Corp., Nissan Philippines, Inc., Suzuki Philippines, Inc., and Toyota Motor Philippines
Corp.
