UAAGI chair to build EV assembly plant

Rommel Sytin, chair of the United Asia Automotive Group Inc (Uaagi), revealed during the press conference of the Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS) at Okada Hotel yesterday that “his team would be aiming to assemble EV (electric vehicles) locally”, with the passing of Senate Bill 1382 into law.

Uaagi is the exclusive Philippine distributor of Chery and Foton vehicles.

Chery Auto Philippines, in particular, has introduced the compact sedan Arrizo 5e EV and the Tiggo8 Pro plug-in hybrid EV (PHEV) SUV.

SB 1382 (the EV and charging station act) provides the national energy policy and regulatory framework for the use of EVs and the establishment of electric charging stations.

Sytin added that “Chery remains steadfast in its vision of providing mobility solutions that are future-proof regardless of uncertain market forces that may affect mobility such as unstable fuel prices. And our PHEV technology is at the core of that solution. On top of enjoying the benefit of pure EV and hybrid technology, it allows us to lessen our carbon footprint further contributing to environmental preservation.”
