Toyota introduces improvements to the best-selling Hilux pickup

Jason K. Ang

Kaizen (continuous improvement) is a core tenet of Toyota. It provides an impetus for the company to always strive for a better way, particularly in the design and manufacturing processes, and of course, the company’s vehicles. It’s not surprising then, that Toyota is introducing a new Hilux that’s improved over its predecessor. Toyota has seen fit to make the improvements even though the Hilux is already reportedly the country’s best-selling pickup.

The new Hilux adds safety and convenience features, as well as revised exterior design, to make it more suitable for all sorts of roads around the country, as well as improve its efficiency and lower its running cost.

The 2022 Hilux G pickup features upgrades to its exterior. It now comes with Tailgate Assist and a bedliner. These were previously available on the GR Sport (GR-S) and Conquest variants. Meanwhile, the GR-S and Conquest now come with cruise control, activated via steering wheel switch, and Lane Departure Alert steering assist. The Hilux GR-S also adds a rear aircon vent for improved comfort for the rear-seat passengers.

Safety is also a priority when it comes to the Hilux updates. The Hilux Conquest and GR-S now come with Pre-Collision System, Adaptive Cruise Control, and Lane Departure Alert. These augment the Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Cross Traffic Alert which are on board the GR-S. The Toyota Hilux is the Philippine market leader for the pickup category, racking up 43% market share. Improvements to the Hilux will help fortify its lead.
