Ayala Land rolls out over 20 EV charging stations at strategic locations across Luzon

There has been an increasing interest in the shift to electric vehicles (EVs) among Filipino car enthusiasts and environmentalists, with more electricity-run cars now available in the market. However, while EVs reduce carbon emissions on the road, EV chargers need to be made more accessible to encourage more users.

To reinforce its commitment towards sustainable and responsible property development and achieving Net Zero by 2050, Ayala Land Inc. (ALI) has made charging EVs easier by rolling out more than 20 charging stations in their malls, estates, offices, and malls across cities in Luzon starting October 27, 2022.

“The rollout of these EV charging stations is one important step towards our goal of carbon neutrality. With this, we hope to create an ecosystem which encourages a sustainable lifestyle within the communities we create,” ALI President and CEO Bobby Dy said during the launch of the charging hubs at the new Ayala Triangle Gardens Tower Two in Makati City.

They are also pioneering making EV chargers available at offices, starting with the Baguio Technohub, Tower 2 Ayala Triangle Gardens, and Solaris One. The rest of the stations are located in Ayala Land Estates: One Ayala Avenue Carousel, Nuvali, Vertis North, Vermosa, and Circuit Makati; Ayala Malls: Greenbelt, Glorietta, Alabang Town Center, and Trinoma; Seda BGC, and at the Laguna Technohub.

Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines’ president Edmund Araga was also present in the launch. “I am delighted that Ayala Land is one with us on our advocacy in promoting the use of EV vehicles in the country. Your new facility will pave the way for compliance with the Department of Energy under the direction of RA 11697 or better known as EVIDA Law. We at EVAP are grateful that your cooperation will help us flourish in encouraging individuals to shift into electric and be one with us in helping our environment,” he said in his short message during the event.

There will be 22-kilowatt AC and 60-kilowatt DC fast chargers across the stations that will soon allow EV users to fully charge their vehicles in as fast as 2 hours. Currently, use of these chargers is free of charge.

This initiative is in line with company’s thrust and long-term commitment towards carbon neutrality and alignment with the global and local directive to shift to more electric vehicles.

Patrick Aquino, Director of the Department of Energy’s Energy Utilization Management Bureau said that with projects like Amp Up by the Ayala Group, the switch to electric vehicles is turning from a vision to reality. In his speech, he also discussed the comprehensive roadmap for the electric vehicle industry or CREVI. “The CREVI will outline the major points with respect to our annual targets in how we envision to transition to a fully electric vehicle society by 2040. It is with projects like this with the private sector that we see the greatest gains towards sustainability,” he shared.

“With more projects like this, we envision that Ayala continues to be a pioneer and showing the rest of us Filipinos how to live an energy efficient way of life,” Aquino concluded.

One of the leaders in sustainability in the country, ALI had earlier committed to neutralizing scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions in their malls, offices, hotels and resorts by 2022 which they have achieved ahead of schedule at the end of the previous year.

This initiative for the rollout of EV charging hubs also highlights the close synergies between companies within the Ayala Group. While Ayala Land provides and operates the EV charging hubs, Ayala’s electronics manufacturing arm Integrated Micro-Electronics, Inc. (IMI), together with its partners TGOOD LINCHR, GREENSTRuM, and Global Electric Transport Philippines provided the chargers. BPI and GCash are also working on cashless payments for the convenience of EV users. Ayala Motors also recently launched a new line of Kia electric vehicles, starting with the Kia EV6.

“We are expanding this program to more key locations, energizing sustainable transport faster and further in the years to come,” Dy added.
