Bermaz Auto Philippines (BAP), the exclusive distributor of Mazda vehicles and parts in the country, has given followers of the Mazda brand in the City of Smiles a lot more reasons to smile.
BAP executives flew to Bacolod recently for two milestone events, the first being the revival of Mazda in Bacolod with the formal inauguration of the new Mazda Bacolod dealership and the national unveiling of the Mazda BT-50 Pangolin Edition 2 4×4 pickup.
Mazda Bacolod’s 2,000 sqm showroom is prominently located along Araneta Street, Singcang, Bacolod City, and is the fourth Mazda dealership in the Visayas. It can house five brand-new cars in its showroom. Equipped with three service bays and a full service body and paint shop, and a team of well-experienced and capable team, it can provide all types of after-sales services from preventive maintenance, collision repair, and general repair services.
Mazda Bacolod is owned and managed by Ponce Automobile. The Ponce family runs one of the most prolific dealer groups in the region with over three decades of industry experience and several car dealerships in its belt.

“We would like to welcome Mazda Bacolod and Ponce Automobile to the Mazda Philippines family,” says BAP President and CEO Steven Tan. “We are happy to have found a new dealer-partner who is committed to provide the best products and the highest levels of quality service as we are.”
Geoffrey Ponce, president of Ponce Automobile said “We are proud to be part of the Mazda dealer family. Thank you, Bermaz Auto Philippines, for entrusting us to be the Mazda brand custodian in Bacolod. It is an honor.” He also intimated that he has always been keen on getting a Mazda dealership ever since he first saw Mazda in car shows. The opportunity presented itself when the franchise became available and the rest was history.
Mazda Bacolod also made history by being the first Vis-Min based dealership to stage a national unveiling of a new Mazda vehicle. BAP/Mazda Philippines, together with Mazda Bacolod unveiled for the first time to the local and national press, the BT-50 4×4 Pangolin Edition 2 pickup truck. The first edition of the Mazda BT-50 Pangolin was introduced two years ago. The second edition is now available as a factory-installed accessory package, and the BT-50 4×4 Pangolin Edition 2 further enhances the urban pickup truck infused with Mazda’s Kodo: Soul of Motion design.
The launch event also coincided with Mazda Philippines’ announcement extending its partnership with the Katala Foundation, a non-stock, non-profit Philippine NGO based in Palawan that is active in protecting and conserving threatened endemic wildlife. Part of Katala Foundation’s wildlife protection advocacies include the preservation and monitoring duties surrounding the endangered Philippine pangolin.
“The Mazda BT-50 brought unrivaled design, comfort, and capability to the popular pickup truck segment when we launched it in November 2021. One year later, it is only appropriate that we mark its anniversary with the return of the BT-50 4×4 Pangolin Edition 2,” says Tan.
“We have been extremely pleased with how the all-new BT-50 has been received since its launch. After listening to customer feedback, we have created the BT-50 4×4 Pangolin Edition 2 which builds on the BT-50’s core strengths. Like the first BT-50 Pangolin, it is also an acknowledgement of the important role we have in preserving the delicate balance of our environment as we go about our daily lives,” he continued.
The BT-50 4×4 Pangolin Edition 2 is fitted with a special set of 18-inch Rota alloy wheels and are finished in Gloss Black. These wheels were manufactured specifically for the BT-50 4×4 Pangolin Edition 2 with an exclusive Pangolin center cap. These wheels have an additional offset of 10mm to make the wheel flush with the black fender flares and body-colored side step boards which come standard with this special edition pickup.
Also standard is a highly durable and impact resistant bed liner, a lockable revolver bed cover, and features a new tailgate assist function which eases the opening and closing of the tailgate designed in-house by Mazda. Powering the pickup is a 3-liter turbo diesel four-cylinder engine rated at 190 PS and 450 Nm of torque that’s mated with a 6-speed automatic transmission.
Just like the other 4×4 variants, it comes with electronically-controlled Drive Selector featuring options for 2-wheel drive low and high gear, and 4-wheel drive low and high gear. It also has an electronic Rear Differential Lock, as well as the Mazda Active Safety Technology (MAST).
The price of the Mazda BT-50 4×4 Pangolin Edition 2 comes as a factory-installed accessory package available exclusively on the BT-50 4×4. For the first 100 customers, the package is available at a special price of P 68,000 to be added to the BT-50 4×4’s P1.79 million suggested retail price.
