SAIC Motor Philippines introduces new EV MG lineup

MG is at the cusp of re-introducing sportscars in the near future with its new platform

SAIC Motor Philippines, Inc. (SMP) has announced that it has assumed the role of importer and distributor of Morris Garages (MG) products and services in the Philippines, in an event held at The Fifth at Rockwell in Makati, last July 19th.  Among in attendance were guests of honor Pedro Garcia, Vice President of SAIC Motor Spain, and Oleg Son, MG Motor Design Director.

“Today, we mark the beginning of a new era in the Philippine automotive industry, one that will lead to a new wave of exceptional vehicles,” says Felix Jiang, President of SAIC Motor Philippines, Inc. “SAIC Motor Philippines is poised to make a resounding impact in the automotive landscape, setting new benchmarks and redefining what it means to drive with excellence.”

SAIC also held a preview of its three new electric vehicles, namely the MG 4, MG ZS EV, and MG Marvel R, which will be launched by this year’s last quarter. SAIC added that the forthcoming arrival of these new MG EVs is a testament to SAIC’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and cutting-edge design.


SAIC Philippines also added that apart from importation, distribution, and aftersales operations, SMP’s functions also include the management of MG’s dealership network in the Philippines. MG currently has 42 authorized dealers nationwide with four more opening this year.

The new MG EV models will use the brand’s innovative Modular Scalable Platform (MSP) which is a state-of-the-art battery architecture that will underpin the future MG models. This platform is designed for a broad range of models, from hatchbacks to SUVs and signals the brand’s re-entry in manufacturing sports cars once again.

The MSP was created to have a bandwidth of wheelbase sizes ranging from 2,650 to 3,100 mm. Its new integrated battery structure with just a height of 110mm, giving a much better center of gravity and roadholding balance plus better driver engagement. The MG4 EV’s new rear-wheel drive platform features a near perfect 50:50 weight distribution. The platform also maximizes battery efficiency, and is designed with reduced weight. Its scalable range and performance allow a flexible and wide range of customer requirements, as well.
