Former actor and current Parañaque City Councilor, Jomari Yllana is spearheading the Okada Manila Motorsport Carnivale 2023 next month.

The five-day event, which starts on August 2, is eyed to be one of the biggest motorsports events ever held. With the help of Philippine Rallycross organizers, it aims to gather over 50 racers.

To be held at the sprawling garden compound behind Okada Manila, the event also consists of other highlights. It features CART, a Car Meet in memory of Eduardo ‘Mang Ed’ del Rosario, founding father of Cavite Auto Racing Team. This is expected to gather collectors of rare racing cars and motorsport gadgets.

Also, it includes an autocross race, featuring, at least, 150 cars, complete with awarding and champagne popping.

According to Yllana, a long-time racing enthusiast, he hopes to bring back the glory days of motorsports in the country. He aspires to resemble the time wherein the Philippine Grand Prix was held in Manila from 1973 to 1976, an era in which local motorsports was known for its “prestige and grandeur”.

The event, if ever, would be an added avenue for racers aside from the ongoing annual Toyota Vios Cup, which is officially regarded as the biggest motorsports event in the country.

Furthermore, Yllana says, through the event, he wants to encourage more Filipinos to embrace the rich history of Philippine motorsports.

“We want to encourage audiences, families, to come and watch this event as a fun family festival that they can look forward to every year,” he says.

As an avid racing enthusiast, Yllana has already quite a number of racing accolades tucked under his belt. This includes being the first Filipino podium finisher at the Yeongam International Circuit in South Korea in 2014. He also won several other local races, not to mention being the principal driver of pro racing team, Yllana Racing.
