MG embarks on a new era in PH with green offerings
SAIC Motor Philippines, Inc., a new local player and full subsidiary under its mother company abroad, has been making buzz ever since it recently announced it’s fully taking over the MG marque in our own turf.
Company head honcho, Felix Jiang, in an exclusive interview with Inquirer Mobility, said: “As we embark on this new chapter for MG here in the Philippines, we are looking forward to a more collaborative and productive partnership with our partners that would allow us to further grow and strengthen our presence here.”
“The “New Era” for the MG focuses on our goal of expanding our mobility solutions offerings to the Philippine market. With our introduction of EV vehicles, we aim to be one of the pillars of the automotive industry as it embarks on its shift to electrification,” he added.
Notably, this hullabaloo is highlighted by the brand’s new lineup of full electric vehicles which is set to arrive in the last quarter of the year.
Of the three vehicles to be introduced, two more prominent models piqued the interest of our local consumers, the Marvel R sport utility vehicle and the 2024 MG4 EV, the brand’s first-ever full electric hatchback car.
“These vehicles are, at the moment, the epitome of SAIC Motor’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and cutting-edge design. With their remarkable features and advanced technologies, we believe that models like these would suit the needs of Filipino customers who are now looking forward to a shift to more sustainable, efficient, and carbon-free transportation,” Jiang continued.
Marvelous Marvel R
The MG Marvel R, specifically, marvels on sleek and modern aesthetics. Its aerodynamic body blends well with its sporty appeal highlighted by its striking front fascia. One is greeted by its bold front grille coupled by stunning LED headlights. This is complemented by its smooth contours on its sides and a sloping roofline, together with LED taillights and a stylish rear spoiler. 17-inch stylish alloys then make superb loafers on its fours.
Inside, occupants are treated to a premium feel of highgrade materials. The exquisite amalgamation of upholstery options, modern trim finishes and slew of creature comforts from connectivity to advanced features makes it a classy and comfortable cabin. It also offers ample legroom and headroom for five.
Under its hood is an all-electric motor system that runs the vehicle’s wheels. Its lithium-ion battery has a capacity of 75kWh. This is integrated into a permanent magnet AC synchronous motor mated to single-speed tranny that produces 180hp and 400N-m of torque. Rear wheel drive train can top at 210 km/h, while its range can reach up to 420 kilometers. Fast charging time to full is about 7 hours and 30 minutes.
Meanwhile, cutting-edge features include advanced driver-assist systems, such as: Adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist and automatic emergency braking.
Jiang then said, “The Marvel R is MG’s luxury electric SUV that combines impressive performance with advanced features.”
“Every journey with the Marvel R elevates the driver and passenger’s experience with a touch of elegance and luxury.”
Revolutionary fully-electric hatch
The MG4 EV, on the other hand, is the first fully-electric hatchback vehicle.
At the onset, the vehicle has a funky and exotic charm into it. It’s highlighted by its sharp lines and edges from the front, side all the way to its rear.
Its unique exterior features include the Active Grille System that regulates airflow into the front compartment, helping one achieve optimal battery range, coupled with two-tone black roof and Twin Aero Rear Spoiler.
Inside, its generous cabin space is further augmented by top-notch creature comforts. 10.25-inch colored touchscreen paired with rotary gear selector underscores driver ergonomics and convenience.
“The MG4 is the brand’s latest electric vehicle offering,” said Jiang.
According to him, it was launched in 2022 and has been highly recognized globally as it has won numerous Car of the Year awards and Electric Vehicle awards from various award-giving bodies abroad.
“This is attributed to the model’s impressive maximum range of 438 kilometers (NEDC), capable of going on extended journeys with ease,” he continued.
“The MG4 EV also exudes sophistication and aerodynamic prowess attributed to its stylish exterior design, advanced convenience features and powerful electric motor.”
Exciting developments lie ahead
For Jiang, since the brand’s introduction here in the country in 2018, MG has established itself as a brand that offers quality and reasonably priced vehicles that meet the ever-evolving demands and lifestyles of Filipino customers.
“For SAIC Motor Philippines, we have exciting developments that lie ahead for the Philippine market as we look forward to further expanding our lineup of vehicles that will elevate the market’s automotive experience to new heights.”
