Porsche PH highlights 27th anniversary with launch of latest Cayenne
Porsche Philippines finally took the covers off the 2024 Porsche Cayenne, the brand’s biggest volume seller worldwide, in a grand Gala Night last week that also marked the 27th anniversary of the brand on local soil.
Porsche PH Chairman Robert Coyiuto Jr., President and CEO Roberto Coyiuto III, and Managing Director William Angsiy were on hand to welcome invitees, most of whom are loyal customers since Coyiuto Jr. first brought in the brand in 1996.
The Cayenne is often credited for ensuring the long-term stability and profitability of the company after it weathered its financial difficulties by the skin of its teeth during the late 80s to early 90s, where the brand almost went bankrupt globally.
Profits from the Cayenne enabled Porsche to fund its ambitious racing projects which allowed the brand to pioneer leading edge technology that filtered down to its road-going vehicles such as the highly-acclaimed Carrera GT, the 918 Spyder, the 911 GT3/RS, GT2RS, the Cayman GT4/ RS, and the Boxster Spyder. Today, Porsche is one of the most, if not the most profitable automotive company in the world.
The Cayenne also introduced the Porsche brand to a new clientele, broadening its audience and tapping new faithful and loyal buyers to the Porsche fold. It is no surprise that in the crossover and SUV crazy Philippines, the Cayenne is also the brand’s bestselling, most sought-after vehicle.
A total of five variants are available: the Cayenne V6 and Cayenne S in SUV and coupe body styles each, and the Cayenne Turbo GT available exclusively in coupe body style.
The V6 powertrain features a turbocharged 6-cylinder gasoline engine outputting 353hp and 500 Newton Meters of torque. The S variant meanwhile brings a twin-turbo V8 engine to the table, producing a stout 474hp and 600 Newton-Meters of torque. Finally, the Turbo GT trim packs a supercar baiting 659hp and an enormous 800 Newton-Meters of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels via a 8-speed automatic Steptronic transmission with reprogrammed shift algorithm featuring better, faster and more responsive shifting. The 2024 Cayenne is said to be the final internal combustion engined model before the transition to full electric powertrain for the next model change.
The biggest change is in the interior. The 2024 Cayenne has the brand’s Porsche Driver Experience interior architecture.
First seen in the 100% electric Porsche Taycan, it places frequently used controls on or beside the steering wheel, including the gear selector that is now on the dashboard. The redesigned cockpit also integrates a curved, 12.6-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch central Porsche Communication Management display, and an optional 10.9-inch screen passenger display.
The 2024 Cayenne has a completely redesigned front and rear end, characterized by a new hood, grille, bumpers and rear valance. The Cayenne and Cayenne S are now equipped with LED matrix headlights while the Cayenne Turbo GT receives HD matrix headlights, Porsche’s most advanced lighting systems. Found at the rear is a new very sleek three-dimension strip taillight that spans the entire length of the car, improving visibility while exuding added style and sophistication.
A new two-chamber damping and height adjustable air suspension is fitted to the new Cayenne models delivering unparalleled comfort and control. Combined with other revised control systems, it sharpens the vehicle’s performance on pavement and off-road. The suspension offers more differentiation between Normal, Sport and Sport Plus driving modes. The thicker tires matched to the suspension guarantee a smoother and more refined ride quality over poor surfaces.
As with any Porsche, expect the absolute pinnacle in driving dynamics, involvement and enjoyment for discerning enthusiasts mated to all the versatility and practicality one expects from a crossover SUV.
Porsche PH also surprised the crowd with the announcement that they will soon break ground on a brand-new facility alongside the existing structure. It will be bigger and better, with the latest state of the art diagnostic and repair equipment for all Porsche models. The future looks very bright for the brand in the Philippines!
