Mobility is simply defined as the ability to move from one point to another. Being itself the title of Inquirer’s motoring section, it refers to compact cars, light commercial vehicles, buses, motorcycles, bicycles and whatnot. Basically, the wheels of these vehicles are the tools that get us to our specified destinations.
With this in mind, if you think about it, fundamentally, we can also consider our own two legs as instruments that get us from point A to point B. Hence, walking–or, in this case–running can practically be considered the simplest form of mobility. And just recently, it became the tool for women runners everywhere to become empowered, inspired and motivated.
“We were able to gather more than 5,300 runners, mostly women, to participate,” said passionate sports enthusiast Nicole Wuthrich-dela Cruz during a recent exclusive interview with Inquirer Motoring when they held their event at SM Mall of Asia Complex in Pasay City.
The founder of Women’s Run Ph continued, “I created this event starting last year to encourage more women to participate in running events that are mostly male-dominated.”
Women leaders
The event was done in partnership with Filipinas CEO Circle (FCC), a group of women leaders spearheading in various business sectors here in the country.
According to a statement, the event reflects the concerted efforts of various groups, particularly FCC, in their commitment to provide an empowering space where women can gather, find inspiration and unlock their potential.
“Your presence at the starting line symbolizes solidarity and showcases the power of unity and determination”, the statement said.
“Girl Power” in the male-dominated world of motoring for over 30 years
One of the women leaders who participated in the 5-kilometer category of the Women’s Run Ph was Ginia Domingo, a former Kia Philippines president and head of Motostrada, which formerly handled the local distributorship Ferrari and Maserati.
“I was able to participate here as part of FCC. Running, for me, is one great way to meditate,” Domingo said.
“I’ve headed various car companies during my stint in the automotive industry and my stress levels were at an all-time high at that time. Running was able to manage that. It helped me clear my mind. It relieved my stress,” she added.
As per Domingo, she worked in the motoring industry for more than three decades.
“I started my career there in 1989. I was a sales consultant in Toyota Shaw and from there, the rest they say is history.”

Pushing limits
Though done in separate interviews, both Nicole and Ginia, bottom-line, still share the same sentiments as they see activities like running serving as tributes to the strength and spirit of women.
“This event is held this March in celebration of International Women’s Month as we continue to inspire women to push their limits and achieve their goals,” shared Nicole.
Meanwhile, the older Ginia, for her part, said, “Exercises like these show how strong your will is, and it, at the same time, reflects how you take on life.”
