Leading mobility company Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) has launched the new GR Yaris, which now comes in both manual transmission and the newly offered automatic transmission.
Born from the World Rally Championship (WRC), the GR Yaris embodies Toyota Motor Corporation chairman Akio Toyoda’s belief that “roads build cars.” As part of its philosophy to continually develop ever-better cars, Toyota emphasizes motorsports as an important avenue to test the limits of its performance cars and develop them for the road.
The new GR Yaris sports a bolder and more aerodynamic exterior design, emphasizing its rally-bred heritage. It comes with 18-inch 225/40 aluminum-forged wheels and tires, LED headlights, daytime running lamps, and rear combination lamps, and a rear spoiler to further elevate its look.
Under the hood, it is powered by a G16E-GTS: three-cylinder, in-line, DOHC 4-valve Roller-Rocker engine that produces an improved max output of 278 hp and a max torque of 390 N-m. It has also adopted an upgraded drive mode select, as well as a new sub radiator and intercooler spray to provide additional cooling and increase the overall performance of the vehicle.
The vehicle comes in two variants – the new 1.6L Turbo A/T, which has an 8-speed direct shift automatic transmission with paddle shifters, and the 1.6L Turbo M/T with 6-speed intelligent manual transmission.
Inside, it has a driver-focused cockpit design that is equipped with improved convenience features such as the full 12.3-inch TFT meter display with tire pressure monitor. It also has a 7-inch display audio with wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto.
It is also equipped with additional safety features such as a back monitor, intelligent clearance sonar, and the improved Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) package with blind spot monitoring (BSM) system and rear cross traffic alert (RCTA). Additionally, the A/T variant comes with dynamic radar cruise control while the M/T variant comes with adaptive cruise control.
The new GR Yaris is available at a starting price of P 3,391,000 for the 1.6L Turbo M/T and P3,550,000 for the 1.6L Turbo A/T. It comes in the following colorways – Super White, Emotional Red, Precious Black, and Precious Metal, which is being offered for the first time.
Get to see the new GR Yaris in the metal at Race Weekend 1 of the 2025 Toyota Gazoo Racing Philippine Cup on March 22 at the Clark International Speedway. Admission is free.
